What should I do?
“For so long, we thought bringing cats to shelters was the best way to help them, but we now realize that most of the time, we can actually help them better by leaving them where they are. Lost cats are more likely to get home, kittens are more likely to grow up healthy and happy, and community cats are more likely to thrive (and less likely to cause problems) when we help them in the community where we find them rather than bringing them to a shelter.

Mom will likely return. Please don’t intervene.
When we find a litter of kittens, our good-hearted instincts tell us to rush to the aid of these fragile felines. Thankfully, human intervention is typically not required.

SPCA Staff Co-Adopts Kitten with Terminal Illness
The Sacramento SPCA staff comes across animals every day, regardless of whether they work hands on in the kennels or in our administration departments. We “fall in love” almost as often. You’ll find staff members bringing leftovers to their favorite dog, an extra plush bed for their special cat, and even homegrown veggies for a rabbit or guinea pig.

It’s time to go back to school, so we’re having a TOGA PARTY at
Urban Roots Brewing!
Join us for our fun-filled Yappy Hour on September 20th from
6-8pm. $1 per pint will benefit the Sacramento SPCA. We’ll also
have adoptable dogs and a raffle with great prizes. This is a dog
friendly event! Dogs are allowed on the patio only, but we will
have dog attendants available so you can order food inside!
