Pawsome PUPkin Party
Sunday, October 29th: 4-6pm

HAPPY SPOOOOKY SEASON! Time to celebrate Halloween and raise money for the animals!

The Sacramento SPCA will be hosting our second annual Pawsome Pupkin Party—an exclusive trick-or-treat event for children of all ages at our shelter! This year we will be hosting the event in the Adoption Center, which will be open for our guests to walk through and visit adoptable pets!

I found a cat
What should I do?

“For so long, we thought bringing cats to shelters was the best way to help them, but we now realize that most of the time, we can actually help them better by leaving them where they are. Lost cats are more likely to get home, kittens are more likely to grow up healthy and happy, and community cats are more likely to thrive (and less likely to cause problems) when we help them in the community where we find them rather than bringing them to a shelter.

Euthanasia Services

In preparation for your visit, please check our hours of operation for any special updates.

We encourage you to bring your pet’s favorite blanket or another comfort from home to provide him/her that extra added peace during his/her passing.

For all euthanasia requests, please bring a government issued identification card and your veterinarian’s diagnosis to confirm the euthanasia reason.  If one is not provided, the Sacramento SPCA retains the right to deny the euthanasia request.

We accept cash or credit card only (no checks please) to provide any of the three euthanasia services below:

  • Euthanasia Without Owner Present (by appointment) – This service is $100.
  • Emergency Euthanasia Without Owner Present (no appointment required)  - This service is $150 and available from Noon to 5:30PM Wednesday through Sunday.
  • Euthanasia With Owner Present (by appointment) –   This service is $150. Only two persons over the age of 12 are permitted in the room while this procedure is performed.  Although we understand that other household pets need time to say goodbye, they will not be allowed in the room while euthanasia is being performed.

We do not offer pick up or in-home services for euthanasia, but we do offer cremation services which we can explain at the time of your visit.  If you have any questions about the three services available, the required documentation or would like to make an appointment, please call our Customer Service Department at 916-504-2851.

A local pet loss support group is also available.

Overview

Love on Loan

Many individuals are unable to have pets in their lives and miss the companionship and joy an animal can provide. They may be residents of an assisted living facility, patients in a hospital or rehab center, children living in a receiving home, or even college students who need to de-stress during a heavy finals schedule. Regular visits from furry friends through the Sacramento SPCA’s Love on Loan program can make all the difference in someone’s life.

paw and handThe deep love and strong bonds we have with our companion animals can evoke profound grief and mourning — which can last for years — when they pass away, are nearing end of life, are lost, or we are forced to rehome them. The Sacramento SPCA  Pet Loss Support Group offers a safe, compassionate, empathetic space to share grief reactions, discuss coping skills, and honor the lives of your beloved friend and family member.

Man on beach

Losing a beloved pet is something we will all face as animal lovers. Because we understand what it means when a cherished companion passes away, the Sacramento SPCA recently constructed a columbarium where your pet’s ashes can be interred and where you are welcome to visit for years to come.
