You Can’t Hurry Love
Why do some animals stay so long at the shelter?
You have seen the posts and videos from various shelters across the country:
“Soley has been waiting 165 days for his new family!”
“Amy has been with us for MONTHS looking for a home!”
Dogs Trapped in Hot Cars
The Sacramento SPCA is Helping Keep Pets Safe
As the Sacramento region heads into an extremely hot week, one local animal welfare organization is taking action to help animals left in hot cars. The Sacramento SPCA is providing thermometers to all animal control officers in Sacramento County in an effort to prevent animals from suffering and dying in hot cars and to hold those who caused this suffering accountable.
people who love animals
By Kenn Altine, Chief Executive Officer
With apologies to Bill Nye: “It is my vision to change the world. I’m not kidding. Make no small plans. Dream mighty things. I believe if we can get enough people to engage in helping animals, we will get enough people to change the world.”
Each day, rain or shine, hot or cold, weekday or holiday, our volunteers show up. This past Memorial Day, the book barn team, which annually raises $82,000, had seven volunteers sorting books and moving heavy boxes, all for the animals. Elsewhere that day, we had volunteers walking dogs, sorting newspapers and socializing cats.
Discovering Passion through Tragedy
It is such an honor to join the Sacramento SPCA family. It is an amazing organization that touches tens of thousands of lives—feline, canine, human and others—every year. In the coming months, I will be working hard to learn more about the organization and the people who make it so successful—the staff, the volunteers and you, our wonderful supporters and advocates.

Animal Disaster Preparedness
Are you and your pets ready?
As pet parents, we all understand the importance of providing our pets with the proper nutrition, exercise, and care to ensure their health and happiness. Often overlooked, however, is the significance of planning for your pet’s safety and care in the event of an emergency.

The Sacramento SPCA is pleased to announce that we have received another grant from the Grey Muzzle Organization in support of our Pawspice program for the next year! This program covers the cost of palliative care for animals like Gina who have a terminal diagnosis but good quality of life.
Found a Lost Pet during 4th of july?
How to Best Help them get home
Have you found a stray animal and aren’t sure what to do? Here are a few tips on how you can best help a lost animal this July 4th Holiday.
Most of the time, lost animals can be easily reunited with their family by staying near where they were found. That leaves the shelter with room to say yes to animals who urgently need our help – those who are sick or injured.
